WebThe most historical monument in Hakodate pre-dating the Meiji Restoration. It is a Vauban-style pentagon-shaped fortress symbolic of the Tokugawa Shogunate's efforts to modernise after the Perry Expedition. We visited during winter so the only attraction is the Magistrate's Office (which is certainly worth visiting).
